The patient received general anesthesia for a lung resection. Position was in the right lateral decubitus. Normally we use an axillary roll to prevent compression of the axillary artery that supplies the dependent arm in this position. The Shoulder-Float worked very nicely in place of the axillary roll, and adequate perfusion of the right hand was verified with the pulse oximeter. The patient weighed approximately 300 lbs., yet I had no difficulty inflating the device.
